Our Mission
Our mission is to help all babies be born healthy and stay healthy. We do this by funding high quality medical research into childhood diseases.

The facts
Approximately 1 in 30 babies in the UK are born with a health condition that will affect them and their families for the rest of their lives. For instance, every year:

Pre-eclampsia kills around 6 women and several hundred babies in the UK
*
Spina bifida affects around 150,000 children born around the world
*
Neuroblastoma is one of the leading cause of cancer deaths in 1 to 5 year-olds
*
Leukaemia is diagnosed in around 400 children in the UK

How we've helped
Our most recent medical achievements include:
* Neuroblastoma Sparks-funded research has identified a gene that may protect against all cancers including neuroblastoma, one of the biggest cancer killers of children under five
* Club foot - our researchers are leading the world's biggest study into club foot identifying the key genes that rob many children of a fully active life
* Spina bifida - our researchers have identified genes that may be linked to severe Spina bifida
* Cerebral palsy - we are contributing to the development of brain cooling equipment that is reducing the incidence of brain injury and cerebral palsy in babies.
